Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about DOGUARDS electric motorcycles — from certification and road legality to charging, maintenance, and warranty.

Are DOGUARDS electric motorcycles road legal?

Yes. Every DOGUARDS motorcycle carries full UN ECE type approval, including the critical UN ECE R136 certification for electric vehicle safety. This means they are fully road legal in all 27 European Union member states, the United Kingdom, and dozens of additional countries that recognize UN ECE standards. You can register, plate, and insure your motorcycle just like any conventional vehicle. Your purchase includes a Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for registration purposes.

Can I insure a DOGUARDS motorcycle with a standard policy?

Absolutely. Because our motorcycles carry complete UN ECE type approval, they qualify for standard motorcycle insurance policies from mainstream providers. You do not need specialized exotic vehicle insurance, special riders, or coverage from niche insurers. Simply contact your preferred insurance company, provide the vehicle details and Certificate of Conformity, and obtain a standard motorcycle policy. This is one of the key advantages of choosing a fully certified electric motorcycle.

What is UN ECE certification and why does it matter?

UN ECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) regulations are the international gold standard for vehicle safety, environmental performance, and roadworthiness. When a motorcycle is UN ECE certified, it has passed rigorous independent testing across multiple regulated categories — from braking performance (R78) and lighting (R53) to electromagnetic compatibility (R10) and electric powertrain safety (R136). This matters because it guarantees your motorcycle meets the legal requirements for on-road use in 50+ countries, ensures it can be insured through standard policies, and verifies that every safety-critical system has been tested to the highest global standards.

How long does the LFP battery last?

Our Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) batteries are designed for exceptional longevity, rated for 3,000+ charge cycles while retaining at least 80% of original capacity. For context, if you charge your motorcycle daily, the battery will last approximately 8–10 years before reaching 80% capacity retention. Even after 3,000 cycles, the battery continues to function safely, albeit with reduced range. LFP chemistry is inherently more stable than NMC or ternary lithium batteries, with zero risk of thermal runaway and excellent performance across a wide temperature range.

How long does it take to charge the battery?

A full charge from empty to 100% takes approximately 6–8 hours using the standard charger supplied with every motorcycle. The battery is removable, allowing you to charge it conveniently from any standard household power outlet (110–240V) — at home, at the office, or anywhere with a power socket. The Battery Management System (BMS) intelligently controls charging speed and temperature to maximize battery life. Partial charges for shorter rides take proportionally less time.

What maintenance does an electric motorcycle require?

Electric motorcycles require significantly less maintenance than petrol-powered bikes. There are no oil changes, spark plugs, air filters, fuel filters, or timing belts to replace. The primary maintenance tasks are: tire condition and pressure checks, brake pad inspection and replacement (as needed), chain/belt adjustment and lubrication (on chain-drive models), battery terminal cleaning, and general bolt-tightening checks. The motor itself is virtually maintenance-free. We recommend a professional inspection every 6 months or 5,000 km, whichever comes first.

What warranty do DOGUARDS motorcycles come with?

All DOGUARDS motorcycles are backed by a comprehensive 2-year or 20,000 km warranty (whichever occurs first). This covers manufacturing defects in materials and workmanship for major components including the motor, controller, battery pack (with a separate performance guarantee), frame, and suspension. The Battery Management System and charging components are also covered. The warranty is transferable to subsequent owners, which adds to the resale value. Extended warranty options may be available in certain markets.

What is the real-world top speed and range?

Performance varies by model. The RS1 Sport achieves a top speed of 90 km/h (56 mph) with a real-world range of 90 km (56 miles) per charge under typical riding conditions. The ID7 Urban reaches 65+ km/h (40+ mph) with an 80+ km (50+ miles) range. Actual range depends on factors including rider weight, riding style (aggressive acceleration reduces range), terrain (hills reduce range), ambient temperature (extreme cold reduces battery efficiency), and tire pressure. Our published figures represent realistic mixed-riding scenarios.

Can I ride an electric motorcycle with a standard driver's license?

License requirements vary by country and jurisdiction. In most EU member states and the UK, a standard A1 or A2 motorcycle license (depending on the motorcycle's power output) is sufficient to operate an electric motorcycle. Some countries have specific categories for electric two-wheelers with lower power output. For example, the ID7 Urban may qualify for lighter licensing requirements in certain markets due to its 2000W motor. We recommend checking with your local vehicle registration authority to confirm the specific license class required in your jurisdiction. Your dealer can also provide guidance.

How does the Combined Braking System (CBS) work?

Our Combined Braking System (CBS) automatically distributes braking force between the front and rear wheels when the rider applies the rear brake lever. This provides balanced, predictable deceleration that significantly reduces stopping distance compared to operating the brakes independently. CBS is especially valuable in emergency braking scenarios and low-traction conditions, where balanced braking helps prevent skidding and loss of control. The system is fully certified under UN ECE R78 and is engineered to provide confident, repeatable braking performance in all weather conditions.
