UN Regulation with Global Reach
ECE R136 is a United Nations regulation under the 1958 Agreement. Over 60 contracting parties recognize it, covering all of Europe plus major markets in Asia, Africa, and Oceania. This makes it the single most valuable certification for electric motorcycle exporters.
Road-Legal & Insurable
ECE R136 type approval is recognized by vehicle registration authorities and insurance companies in all 60+ signatory countries. Without it, electric motorcycles may be classified as "off-road only" — unregistrable and uninsurable for public road use.
Comprehensive Safety Testing
R136 testing covers: electrical safety (ISO 6469-3), REESS safety (thermal runaway, overcharge, short circuit, crush), functional safety (torque management, fault detection), and protection against electric shock (IPXXB/IPXXD, insulation resistance). Each test is performed at an accredited EU technical service.
