ECE UN R136 CertifiedElectric Motorcycle Manufacturer
UN ECE R136 is the international safety regulation for electric powertrains on two-wheeled vehicles. It is the essential certification that proves your electric motorcycle meets European road-safety standards — without it, import, registration, and insurance are impossible in most regulated markets.
What Is UN ECE R136?
UN ECE R136 is a United Nations Economic Commission for Europe regulation specifically designed for the safety of electric powertrains on category L-vehicles — including electric motorcycles, mopeds, scooters, and tricycles. It was introduced to address the unique safety risks of high-voltage electrical systems in light electric vehicles.
🔋 Battery Safety
Thermal runaway protection, overcharge/discharge safeguards, short-circuit prevention, and cell-level monitoring for Li-ion and LFP battery packs.
⚡ Electrical Protection
High-voltage interlock, insulation resistance monitoring, ground fault detection, and automatic power disconnect in crash scenarios.
🛡️ Functional Safety
Safe torque control, motor controller fail-safe modes, regenerative braking compliance, and electromagnetic compatibility (ECE R10).
🔒 Crash Integrity
Battery enclosure mechanical strength, connector retention under vibration, water ingress protection (IP rating), and post-crash electrical isolation.
Without UN ECE R136 certification, an electric motorcycle cannot be legally registered, plated, or insured in Europe or any country adopting UN ECE standards.
Why European Distributors Need R136
Cannot Register & Plate
Without R136, your electric motorcycle is classified as an unapproved vehicle — no license plate, no public road access. Customs will block the import at the border.
No Insurance Coverage
Insurers will refuse liability, theft, and comprehensive coverage for uncertified vehicles. Your customers cannot legally ride without valid insurance.
Fleet & Commercial Prohibition
Last-mile delivery fleets, rental services, and corporate mobility programs require certified vehicles. Non-certified EVs are excluded from commercial operations.

UN ECE Testing Process
Every DOGUARDS model undergoes comprehensive testing at accredited European laboratories before certification is granted.
Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) — R10
Radiated and conducted emissions tested to ensure the motorcycle does not interfere with other electronic devices. Immunity testing confirms reliable operation in real-world electromagnetic environments.
Battery Safety — R136 & UN38.3
Thermal runaway testing, overcharge protection validation, short-circuit simulation, vibration endurance, and mechanical shock resistance. Cells and packs tested at ISO 17025 accredited labs.
Braking Performance — R78
Wet and dry braking distance measurements, combined braking system (CBS) calibration, fade resistance testing, and parking brake holding force verification.
Lighting & Signaling — R53
Photometric testing of headlamp beam pattern, stop lamp intensity, turn signal flash frequency, and rear reflector retro-reflectivity. Verifies nighttime and low-visibility safety.
Controls & Displays — R39, R60, R62
Speedometer accuracy across speed range, control labeling ergonomics, steering lock strength, and anti-theft device effectiveness.
Final Vehicle Type Approval — E9 136R01
Complete vehicle audit including all subsystems. Issued by an EU member state approval authority. Confirms full compliance for road registration in 60+ countries.
